Prof. Dr. habil. Caroline von Gall studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich from 1999-2005, where she successfully passed her first state examination in 2005. In 2005-2007 she completed her disserttion at the University of Cologne at the Institute for Eastern Law under Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Dr. hc. Angelika Nußberger. In 2007-2009 she completed her legal clerkship in Cologne and received her doctorate in 2008 with the thesis "Die Konzepte ,staatliche Einheit‘ und ,einheitliche Macht‘ in der russischen Theorie von Staat und Recht" ("The Concepts of 'State Unity' and 'Unified Power' in the Russian Theory of State and Law").

In 2009-2011 she worked as a research assistant at the University of Cologne and was a visiting scholar at Columbia University Law School New York, USA from February - August 2011. On 01.02.2012 she was appointed as Junior Professor for Eastern Law and Public Law at the University of Cologne.

In the summer semesters of 2020 and 2021, she was a visiting professor for Public Law and International Public Law at the FU Berlin.

On 21 January 2021, she habilitated at the University of Cologne and received the venia legendi in Public Law, International Public Law and European law and Comparative Law.

In the summer semester of 2022, she will once again be a visiting professor of Public Law and International Public Law at the FU Berlin.
