Naciye Betül Haliloğlu Pakdil

Naciye Betül Haliloğlu Pakdil graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Law (2017) with Summa Cum Laude. She then completed an Advanced LL.M. in International and European Human Rights Law at Leiden University, with a thesis on “Headscarf Restrictions in Private Employment: The Added Value of an Intersectional Discrimination Approach to the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice” under the supervision of Prof. Dr Titia Loenen. She worked as a full-time research assistant for 5 years at the Department of Constitutional Law at Istanbul University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Saadet Yüksel and Prof. Dr Abdurrahman Eren. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich on “Freedom of Religious Association in European Human Rights Law,” under the supervision of Prof. Dr Christian Walter, and working on blog posts and articles on freedom of religion. 

Her academic pursuits have been supported through various scholarships. Due to her ranking in the Turkish University Entrance Exam (3rd, 120th and 151st), she received a full scholarship from Bilkent University for the entirety of her Bachelor’s studies. Her LLM was funded through the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS), and the Turkish Ministry of Education Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad funds her current PhD studies in Munich. 

She was a co-rapporteur for “The Lex-Atlas: Covid-19 (LAC19) - The Oxford Compendium of National Legal Responses to Covid-19” project. As a certified tutor for the Council of Europe Programme on Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP), she served as a tutor for the HELP certificate programme, hosted by Istanbul University and the Council of Europe. She acted as an instructor for a working group in the Law on the Bosphorus Summer School, organised by Leiden University and Istanbul University. She was also an editorial board member for a book project published in the Istanbul University Faculty of Law Series of Commemorative Volumes. 

In her free time, she enjoys swimming and learning languages. Apart from her native language (Turkish), she speaks English (IELTS 8/9), German (TESTDAF TDN5), French (B2) and is a beginner in Arabic.
